The Rangatahi Barbell programme at Hānana Fitness is specially designed for young athletes eager to build strength and develop their weightlifting skills in a supportive and structured environment. Tailored as an engaging after-school activity, this programme offers a fantastic opportunity for rangatahi to learn and grow through the discipline of weightlifting.
Running twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays during school terms, the Rangatahi Barbell programme provides coaching focused on mastering the fundamentals of weightlifting. Participants will receive personalised guidance on technique, form, and strength development, making it an excellent choice for those who are curious about the sport or wish to pursue it competitively.
Rangatahi Barbell is delivered in collaboration with the Manawatū Whanganui Weightlifting Club, giving participants the option to train in alignment with competitive standards.
Club affiliation is not required to participate in these classes, but those aiming to compete in sanctioned Weightlifting New Zealand (WNZ) events must register with both an affiliated club (such as the Manawatū Whanganui Weightlifting Club) and Weightlifting New Zealand, with additional fees outside of this service for competition support and eligibility.
Whether for fun or competition, Rangatahi Barbell is a welcoming space for youth to build strength, confidence, and community.
